Flat feet is a postural deformity in which the arches of the foot collapse, with the entire sole of the foot coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground standing up.
It is likely that children with flatfoot would have no symptoms and usually, parents would notice, but some have one or more of the following symptoms: Pain, tenderness or cramping in the foot, leg and knee, outward tilting of the heel, awkwardness or changes in walking.
Symptoms of flat feet in adults:
It can increase the likelihood of pain especially after running or it may be difficult standing up for too long. Pain most commonly affects the following parts of the body: inside ankle, alongside possible swelling arch of the foot, calf, knee, hip, lower back, and lower legs. People with flat feet may suffer from feeling rigid, stiff, heavy, and unwieldy feet.
Most babies are often born with flat feet. Flat feet occur because the tissues holding the joints in the foot together (called tendons) are loose. Babies are born with flat feet but the tissues tighten and form an arch as children grow older. Most people have normal arches by the time they are adults.
Your doctor should be able to diagnose flat feet by examining your feet. He or she may ask you to sit or stand and will observe your feet from various angles.
Some of the treatment of flat feet includes: Strengthen muscles, arch supports, and supportive shoes and controlling weight.
